Prodigal Outreach

Prodigal Outreach is a vision, and we invite your participation. We invite you to "see". Our lives are individual journeys, and yet we are part of a complex and chaotic world. The work of Prodigal Outreach is to bring tolerance, hope and compassion to those who need it most.

It is our hope that you will join us in helping give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. The chaos of the world in which we live makes it easy to close eyes and hearts. Through the years, it is increasingly apparent that we are becoming more and more isolated from the fear and pain felt by the disenfranchised. As a result, we become a more "us and them" spiritual society. How this happened is not important. To change and bring back the love is what is vital, because that is what gives life.

In the book of Samuel, we are told, "Man looks at appearances, but God looks at the heart." This work and the Gate magazine are walks through the heart of people courageous enough to allow you to see beyond appearance and into the heart. Through recovery programs and creative projects, such as the Gate Magazine, people have a safe place to reveal what concerns them, hurts then and ultimately connects us together. My hope is that we look a little closer at one another and not pass by what we do not understand because of fear. The product of fear is intolerance and apathy. The world is troubled and the waters turbulent. Our vision creates a flow of peace and balance for those who have been injured and tossed aside.

The ongoing work at Prodigal focuses on emotional healing and recovery. Through classes, studies and personal counseling sessions, we reach out and touch others with respect. We help to restore them through compassionate patience and honesty. Jesus said, "You will know truth, and truth will set you free." Our staff is made up of volunteers. They are creative and ethical people. Very early on, the board of this work grasped the value, the endeavor of the gate and the other art therapy and recovery programs we presented to them. Their continued generosity of spirit demonstrates the true art of self-sacrifice. This generosity creates a fortuitous pathway for others.

Our outreach encompasses practical needs as well. Throughout the years, we have supplied food, shelter, and rent, helped with utility bills for young, old, widows, and single parent families. We have reached into the Middle East, Asia, Europe, prisons, schools and rehabilitation centers throughout the years.
