Prodigal Outreach: Opening Gates of Expression

The Gate

In times of peril and fear, we construct and live behind walls. It is natural to protect oneself from exposure. In the world of walls, we close and bolt gates. There are many reasons for locked door-ways in our lives. Our misery, suffering and sadness causes us to lock out what might challenge our self preservation. And in an age of violence to the soul and in a world where enemies invade and abuse, it is easier to padlock the latches of the gates and close out what we do not understand.

In ancient cities, there were walls and gates. Gates opened to the citizens of the cities, but locked out perceived harm. Many years ago, I became fascinated with the gates in the Jerusalem Wall because each specific entry point held meaning. We wanted to create a unique publication, where anyone could enter into the "city" of creativity. A place where understanding would reveal and heal. A place where one could observe and access without fear of judgment. A place where, perhaps in the highest of ideals, the people and things we fear for lack of understanding would become less threatening and more human and spiritual. We have endeavored to create such a place. The gates are open. One by one, we will open them all. Look inside without bitterness and anger. We have made a place for you to create and respond.

We believe you will find a piece of yourself in them. In "The Gate", there is room and space for you to pass into the city. Come in. This gate will not lock or shut. It is open for understanding and expression.
